Molecular testing for cytologically indeterminate thyroid nodules has demonstrated benefit by reducing the need for diagnostic thyroidectomies and reducing costs. Its use is currently recommended in practice guidelines from the American Thyroid Association and the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons when clinically appropriate. Moreover, there is growing evidence that molecular testing may provide prognostic information and can detect targetable genetic alterations which may expand treatment options for refractory advanced thyroid cancers.Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
