Mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene result in cystic fibrosis, a multiorgan disease characterized by aberrant epithelial cell fluid secretion. Recent studies describe a connection between CFTR malfunctioning and a heightened susceptibility to colorectal cancer (CRC).
